Bulletproof Migraine-Specific Diet?

I have suffered from debilitating migraines my whole life. They are so severe that I experience vision loss, vomiting, slurred speech, even hospitalization...so many days of my life have been ruined from them! While I've seen specialists and doctors my whole life and have found relief in a few treatments, nothing has eliminated them.

Aside from supplements, medications, pain control, and preventative treatments, my doctors have always stressed a "healthy diet" and have told me to stay away from certain foods that have been blamed for triggering migraines. They suggest I should always get moderate exercise, and do my best to integrate relaxing activities in my life such as meditation or yoga. I have been told to maintain a very regular sleeping pattern (going to bed and getting up at the same time, every day) which does make a huge difference on its own. My gynecologist has experimented with having me take birth control continuously (to skip periods) to eliminate at least the hormonal migraines, which worked, but screwed up my body and I couldn't take it anymore. I've seen specialist after specialist and I'm tired of hearing the same thing over and over again!

After going bulletproof, I have not had a single migraine which really excites me. I have had a few headaches, but they are bearable and easy to solve with rest and water. I am not surprised that this diet has helped eliminate migraines, but I am very curious if there has been any bulletproof research done for migraines? I would love to know if there are certain things for migraine sufferers to focus on, like foods to eat less of, eat more of, eliminate entirely? What about certain supplements? I would be very grateful for anything anyone knows about this already. I would love to kick migraines out of my life for good.

    Hi,

I'm so happy that this is working for you! I will share my personal experience, my brother was in the same boat as you. 20 years of headaches every day! Upon transiting to a healthier lifestyle we found out he was allergic to Gluten after testing. The bulletproof diet has NO GLUTEN in it so I'm not surprised by your results if you happen to be in the same position. There is a difference to being Gluten intolerant and allergic from my understanding. It may take some time for your body to adapt but I'm confident you will have great success if you stick to being bulletproof and start upgrading yourself in the near future.

Your condition my not even be related to Gluten but a handful of people were. You could be sensitive to mycotoxins etc...

Everything I learned about "biohacking" has been baby steps to "circadian biology", that's where the real biohacking comes in. You can buy a bunch of cool shit to "hack" but if you don't have context, you're not winning. Paleo is just a brand now and too many have opinions, it's on you to read and reread the material to not only find truth but to connect the dots. Much love to everyone who has helped me on my journey for restoring my health, please keep in touch. Feel free to message me with health questions [email protected]

    Hi Rod!

Thank you for your reply! I am really happy to hear that your brother has eliminated migraines from his life. (Its much more rare for males to suffer from chronic headache and migraines, by the way!) I am really not sure what food was causing or worsening my headaches- It could have been one thing like gluten, or it could be a handful of things. I could play around and experiment by adding things back into my diet to see what happens, but the idea of the migraine pain I could face makes me cringe and I'd rather not, ha! Does your brother follow the bulletproof diet or did he only remove gluten?

When you get some time away form the headaches, if you care enough, you can test things just to be cool like that lol =) He follows the BulletProof diet and it's worked AMAZING for him in terms of energy, mood, weight loss. His headaches did go away before the BF diet but I'm sure that was just more ammo to head and stay in the right direction!

  • magnesium chloride and shrooms and raw cannabis are helpful
  • Congratualtions kleigh!  I also suffered from migraines and strong headaches.  I went to bp towards the end of Janaury and have to report that I haven't had any headaches since.  Can't tell you how happy that makes me.  To be it has to be the diet change.  I don't know what the culprit was, but I know I'm not eating gluten anymore and have not had dairy (except butter) so that could be it.  Or it may bethat I'm not eating McDonalds every day !!

Rod, later I would like to know what causes my headaches.  Do you sugest introducing foods items back and seeing if there is a response or is there a specific food alergy test that can prove an alergy.  I would liek to wait until I'm at a stable weight and more intuned with a bp life.

    Thanks.
