Ugh. This is an issue for me because it kind of hits home. My mom's been on daily Omeprazole for more than a decade. Still believes that she can't live without it and that eating anything remotely fatty will cause her to suffer awful heartburn. Sigh. She had her thyroid nuked due to Grave's Disease awhile back, too. And my dad proudly mentioned to me the other day that my mom doesn't hardly eat meat anymore, not even the occasional bit of seafood. "There are so many better alternatives," he told me without even the remotest trace of sarcasm. By "better alternatives", I reckon he meant their grain-based vegetarian diet.

I'd send her this article, but she wouldn't give a damn. "Genetics" have done this to her, or "aging", or "the doctor knows best" anyway.

Its sad huh. More than likely her heartburn is triggered from both the PPI and a lack of thyroid. She probably has very slow motility. Meat is high in protein, without proper stomach acid and pepsin production those proteins are not broken down properly, leading to allergies.

Well, she's had heartburn since I was a kid. She's always eaten poorly, been a wheat fiend. The thyroid thing was just this past year, and yeah, I don't imagine it'll be helping things. Not much one can do, though. Both she and my dad work in healthcare so they're convinced they know better. Frustrating.

Oh, probably. She's got all sorts of issues going on. I want to say she has talked about issues with bloating in the past. She's also into chronic cardio, doing 100-mile bike rides and running. She hurts herself running and then blames it on anything but her lack of proper nutrition and recovery. It's madness.

Sorry to have derailed, haha. This isn't "That thread about Skeletor's mom and all of her ridiculous, self-inflicted issues".

So much cardio, so little magnesium. Recipe for disaster.
