Breastfeeding And Weight Gain

Before I get into this, I realize that this is completely a first world problem. I just want to know if anyone else has had a similar experience or thoughts/opinions.

-I have been eating primalish/whole foods since about 2011.

-Gave birth to first child in June 2015, did not gain any extra weight in pregnancy.

-Have gained probably 15 pounds in the following 9 months. No huge dietary changes.

- Sleep is a little more fragmented, but not hugely - we co-sleep.

It is such a cliche to say that if you breastfeed, the weight will fall right off...so it has been so interesting trying to make sense of what is happening in my body hormonally; have not found a lot of great resources yet.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • Sometimes pregnancy and childbirth will do a number on the thyroid.  I would find a good endochronologist that understands TSH, T3, RT3, TSI, and TPOab (anti-TG, anti-TPO).  If you doctor does not know all of these tests and how to interpret them, they are wasting your time and money.
