Cannot Fall Asleep, Feel Like Highly Anxious

I am 10 days into BP with IF.  I have always done low carb, more protein as I have celiac, just switched things up to follow protocol, already take the 10 recommended supplements.  However my sleep is worse or NOT EXISTENT now, very irritable now.

I take my salt water before getting out of bed, on my night stand, I then have my BP coffee xct oil with kerrygold. I have one at 6am and one at 10am,  (and I am hungry but prepared)   At noon Glut. Force since no more coffee and food is not for 2 more hours.  Then I eat a huge salad with either salmon or gf beef, avacado and homemade acv dressing, I bought the cook book.   2pm L Glutamine.

4pm  Charcoal

I am hungry from lunch til dinner and I don't think munching on celery and cucumbers is bad (mostly water and I suffer with water retention since a child)   Dinner is GF lamb or salmon cooked in glassware according to directions with side of green beans loaded with salt and butter.

7pm organic berries 1/2 cup.    Done.....

Night supplements Nat. Calm.    I get sleepy as I take it at 9.  Go to bed around 9:30.  All devices shut off at 8pm -  normal habit

It is like I get this rise in energy as opposed to decrease in energy and ready to sleep in my darkened room...every little light is covered since before BP......I believe this is ADRENAL BURNOUT and I went for annual physical in April, oh you need to lose 15 lbs your cholesterol is up, but glucose perfect 82...they know nothing about adrenal burnout..

I am wasting days...today is like a hangover.   And I have suffered with Restless Legs since age 12.   I have Celiac Disease, and I am 17 yrs female cancer free and have no female repro organs.   I take bio-identical testostorone cream, very low dose and bio-identical progresterone, dhea and pregnenelone all at 8am.

I don't want to have this spare tire, sleepless, exhaused, foggy brain, body.................I thought that BP was the tweak I needed to help get ME back...................any suggestions....SLEEPLESS in FLORIDA

stats 5 ft 3, 135 (was 120 until 5 yrs ago) cant lose lb or inch no matter exercise or not, right now I am not exercising.

Thanks for all that took time to read, really need suggestions...NOT A QUITTER..

Have you tried not drinking coffee for a while?

Please trade in your Natural Calm for straight-up magnesium glycinate, without the calcium. Calcium counteracts the calming effect of magnesium, and we get more than enough calcium as it is, which builds up and can lead to anxiety, among numerous other health issues.

Try adding 1000 mgs of niacinamide at nigh on top of this, and try having a little raw honey or fruit before bed.

One more thing...  If you're hungry all the time, you're not getting enough calories. Your body will not change by starving it. Health comes BEFORE weight. Weight will come when your health gets on track. In the meantime, I also suggest taking at least 6000-10,000 mg of vitamin C each day, divided into at least 3 doses.

  • Thanks for the responses...I guess the BP coffee gotta go...waaaaa   but I understand for now... but the BP lifestyle is something I am getting accustomed to switching from just low carb.    So no more fasting for me with my coffee.   I will eat more.   I am not afraid to eat more I was just trying the BP IF and eating only 2 to 7pm.

I will purchase some magnesium glycinate.   and increase my Vitamin C presently taking 3000 divided.

I never want another night like last it was plain scary, like lock me up and throw away the key anxiety and Restless Leg...

    Keep you posted...thanks everyone

Glad to hear it. Yes, caffeine and adrenal fatigue do not mix.

For the magnesium, try around 400 mg around an hour before bed, along with the 1000 mg of niacin (as niacinamide).

As for the restless leg, the C, magnesium and niacin should really help

i wonder if taking a theanine pill with coffee would 'protect' the adrenals to any extent ?

is tea drinking any easier on the adrenals than coffee drinking (tea comes with theanine) ?

just thinking out loud, i have not googled any of this...

fake it till you make it

This is kind of like where I was about 6 months ago. i feel your pain. PEMF ended up saving me, though i don't use it anymore. yeah, basically you need to try and relax as much as possible, take calming nutrients like Mg all the time, minimize stress (can't overemphasize that point)

it will take time for your system to balance out.

other things that i'm learning of that may help.

Getting uv light into your eyes as soon as you wake up if possible to program your circadian clock right, grounding in the morning can help calm you down, any time is okay, but morning i find the best (bare feet touching the earth for 30 mins +, wet ground is better as it's more electro-conductive)

Also maybe looking into detoxing regularly will help you - i'm getting into this phase personally now, glutathione, bentonite clay, zeolite, charcoal for detoxing and cleansing may be things that you would benefit from researching.

Good luck, keep us posted on your progress :)

  • no COFFEE AND DRAGGING BUTT..........OH JOY!!!  STILL EATING BP...ordered my Sabre Science Saliva test kit as I used to be a distributor for them and stopped 2 years ago.....keep you posted

  • Have you considered maybe you are waking up due to obstructive sleep apnea?

  • I do believe it is adrenal burnout as it occured before and since I am 17 yrs post total hysterectomy..my body is trying to get the hormones from the adrenals since I do not have the necessary female parts to accomodate.   My day is pretty predictable, get up at 5:30 am even with no sleep, and (had coffee until today), breakfast 10am with other supplements, lunch if hungry, then 1pm lunch or no lunch FOGGY brain and can't remember crap and want to sleep and I fight it...it's not like a power nap it's like I could sleep.   Then 4pm let's be wide awake, clean the house, finish my bookkeeping, and cook, you name it the energy is there to do it.  I shut off everything 8pm EXCEPT my brain doesn't get the message.  9pm magnesium (no more NatureCalm since last night)  and I am still awake..no TV, no lights, nothing in my bedroom by 10...it's frustrating and a vicious cycle...I was 10 days into my BFIF protocol and stopped the coffee today...oh boy...but I must repair the adrenals first which can take awhile I am told.

Any advise what to do with charcoal and Glutathione Force.............the eating is still going to be Bulletproof despite the burnout just no coffee...

    Thanks everyone...

  • I've always had a hard time sleeping, always. I've seen a couple specialists and the one thing i've started doing is taking liquid melatonin. I was doing as the bottle suggested, which i think is 1ml right before bed. The doctor told me not to do that....as it was making no difference for me anyway...but instead...2-3ml and roughly 3 hours before bed. I haven't been doing it enough yet to give much info, but wanted to share.

I would be careful with that personally, it's one of those things I have heard (from jack kruse) that you don't want to throw off in terms of natural production, and like with any supplementation, you have to be really careful.

Circadian rhythm is HUGE. Light is a big part of it.

Check out Kruse's stuff, he has written a lot about it

  • Thanks Qi_Power. I hadn't thought about it messing up my natural production at all. Thanks for the link. Will look more into it.

Two weeks, adrenal burnout, and no one asked about a carb refeed?

If you are healing adrenal function you're going to need more carbs than standard BP recommends anyway, plus BP stipulates a carb refeed at least once a week, often twice a week for women since their hormones are different. NOTE: during a carb refeed you will see the scale weight go up due to water retention. You can't gain pounds of fat in one day, so don't worry if you see a jump.

My sleep quality tanks when I eat as few carbs as you write about.
