Water Retention or Weight Gain?

Over the past few weeks I've noticed that my clothing tends to leave marks on my skin, my bra feels tighter, and now also many of my pairs of shorts and jeans feel really snug around the inner thigh and butt. I'm also bloated in my lower belly where as I used to wake up in the morning pretty flat. I'm active and eat well, and haven't changed any of those routines in the past three weeks. I am female and have irregular periods (they are light, and come every other months sometimes). I used to be on the pill, but have been off for over 6 months. I'm wondering if I'm just gaining weight or if I am retaining water? If the latter, I don't know what would have caused it? Or what I can do to attend to it?
