My Book Format

The first draft of my book is almost done and I was wondering what format of the book I should release first. Should I either charge people $7 to be sent to my paypal with an e-mail address that I can send them a copy of the book in word format, pdf format, and .epub format. Or should I format it for kindle first and only be able to list it on kindle and advertise it on kindle for ninety days.

Thanks for your guys input as always.

Ron

Amazon take a huge chunk, but they have a huge reach to people. Have you looked into a "Tim Ferriss" approach to launching?
  • I read mostly on kindle now... about 100 books a year. Don't particularly care for the pdf books I've bought. Formatting can be annoying at times and I guess I'm spoiled by the easy downloading of the kindle.

I could format it to kindle and sell it myself still.

  • I don't see any reason why you shouldn't pursue as many channels as possible: iBooks, Kindle, PDF...

It seems, to me, that a pdf is the most accessible way to reading it. Don't do a word doc, you don't need people changing it.

Also, how does the level of information compare with Upgraded Chef?

If you've got similar, or more, then make it $10-15 ;)

I'd put an option on the page for people to pay more too... like a kickstarter with incentives. $10 for the book, $20 for the book plus a list of your vitamin recommendations, $50 for the book and a 30 min skype consultation, $100 for the book and a sensual back massage. That sorta stuff.

    Here are some suggestions:

    1. You must have a website to go with the book, www.healthygut.com or whatever.

Throughout the book, if you recommend a good supplement, make sure you have a good affiliate set up already for it. Inside the book, put the URL for the supplement as a link on your site, e.g. healthygut.com/magnesium

Set up those links as redirects to your affiliate links, so healthygut.com/magnesium will redirect to the amazon link with your code embedded so you can earn more that way.

    2. Write to Dave or similar people and see if you can get them to write you a review that you can include in the book.

    3. Get in touch and do the podcasting rounds when the book is online.

As for format, I'd definitely go for Kindle despite their huge fees. Make it available on your website too. The more platforms the better!

Also, you should hire me as a representative if you don't want to do the podcasting rounds yourself.

  • selling on scribd might not be a bad idea

Indomitable- when you break you get right back up

  • I have heard good things about www.createspace.com

They offer editing services, but I don't know how good they are.

They also offer print-on-demand printing for physical books, which are still important.

I just hunted this post down to add a comment about createspace.com but OceanRay beat me to it! I found out about them the other day, they look really good! Owned by Amazon so the only thing you really need to worry about is a hefty margin.
