Britishmedstore.net Spam

edited October 2013 in Biohacker Banter

Warning: I have taken a lot of modafinil today.

I have made a new account to post this, I have already reported it, but I figured I would post my findings.

It is also not that important so i figured Gangster Banter was the best place.

Before reading the rest of this post it is important to consider two things:

  1. The domain britishmedstore.net was registered on October 17th 2013 - Amazing how so many people have received orders already.

  2. Disqus has already responded to me regarding this comment spam:

Hi ****,

We’ve taken a look into this and can confirm that these users appear to be spam voters. Although there’s currently no way to moderate spam voters specifically, our team has this on our minds and have included your report in our records.

The spam reaches across these posts:

http://www.bulletproofexec.com/why-you-are-suffering-from-a-modafinil-deficiency/

17 comments across 3 posts, and over 100 votes, so how likely is it that 100 people are fans of this 9 day old site, readers of bullet proof exec, and all decided to create a Disqus account on October 22nd 2013.

Take this comment:

Clearly a promotional post, with a bunch of brand new accounts voting it up, a lot of votes to accumulate for such a young post.

Some of the comments have been spammed across several sites for example:

I took modafinil for about a year. It was 2007, I couldn’t concentrate on anything and I read about people taking it in the guardian. So I ordered some from a company in India. Back then it wasn’t as easy to get, and was fairly expensive. I paid about £70 for a pack of 40.

There are many more example but I am not going to go through them all...but if you cross reference both sites you will find 5 or 6 examples.

It goes beyond spam, at one point, and turns into a delightful sequence of childish comments to discredit competitors (on a post where Dave try's to encourage modafinil sources):

I live in Holland and ordered from modup.net and the package got held at customs - they didn't even bother to refund my money!

Typical modup really - that's why I aways go to BritishMedStore - will check out their .net address

A lot cheaper as well

I find modup pretty rude as well - doesn't budge on refunding orders that get lost etc

(This last comment is particularly childish, you will also notice the “Modup” Disqus account upvoted all the previous comments also.)

You will find the above posts are subject to similar spam voting, all in all very poor promotional techniques and attempts to discredit competitors.

Dave like many webmasters allows comments without moderation to encourage discussion, this is the essence of the internet, it is just a shame to scroll to the bottom of an article in search of nuggets of information and instead be granted with aggressive spam, I have flagged the comments but I doubt Dave has time to go through that kind of stuff.

The spam also extends to the forums a little: http://forum.bulletproofexec.com/index.php?/user/16978-britishmedstore/

(see posts made)

Given they are members here, I would like to know why we should buy from such a deceitful company?
