If I'm applying it to my skin does it matter which kind? If it doesn't, I'll just get regular coconut oil because it's the cheapest.
If you want to fry with it or otherwise heat it to high temperatures, then regular is better. Extra Virgin is for preparation techniques that don't involve excessive heating.
Why would you use virgin for topical application if there's no difference in effectiveness and non virgin is cheaper?
Extra virgin is a gimmick, there is only virgin and non virgin, either one is probably fine for topical application though I would just use virgin myself.
