Does Diet Affect Hrv?

I know it affects your heart beat (foods to which you're allergic make your heart beat faster than normal), but your heart beat has no bearing on HRV, as far as I can tell.

  • My daily average coherence is close to 2 full points higher after quitting butter for the last 3 weeks.  My doctor theorized that I developed an allergy to butter by consuming so much of it with a leaky gut.  It makes sense that removing foods that trigger an allergy will raise coherence.

  • I read from a guy that did self experiements with how food affected his hrv. it clearly did for him. cant find it now. think i googled hrv training. he was into hrv for athletic training or something.

ive done some tests. but not tracked properly. it looks like a lot of fruit lowers my hrv for severla hours. but that could be just me.

Interesting. I drank a thing of Hansen Soda (I know; I know. I'm a terrible human being) yesterday. I had the emwave clip attached to my ear before and after I drank said soda. Although I noticed a  a huge surge in heart BPM, it didn't affect coherence. I was able to stay in high coherence the entire time.

  • Yeah, I believe you. It makes sense.

  • Try some resistant starch. I noticed I feel more calm after I take 20 g of unmodified potato starch so I tested my HRV before and after. The results were stunning.

    Interesting.

  • That is compelling.  Do you have any known gut issues?  Also, how long have you been taking resistant starch?  It might not be a good idea for some people to jump into 20g of potato starch without a good ramp up.

  • Yeah, I do have gut issues. IBS, dysbiosis and leaky gut. Although, those tests were done more than 6 months ago so I'm not completely sure where I'm at now. I started taking RS about 3 months ago and I haven't had one IBS episode since then.

You ain't lying. I tried some last night and saw a huge boost in HRV performance.

I mix the stuff in water. Is that how you're supposed to take it?

  • Here are a few studies on how diet and nutrition can affect HRV and the vagus nerve.

People with digestion issues will have bad HRV values due to increased vagal tone and esophageal spasms (trust me I have lived this). Diet in healthy people with healthy digestive systems should effect HRV minimally.

My book Fix Your Gut, is offered on Amazon for $9.99.

Do you mean decreased vagal tone? If you really mean that increased vagal tone is problematic I would like to hear why.

It affects my HRV a lot. Depending on what I eat it can have a very positive impact. I made that experience with dark chocolate due to several reasons. 1. Amino acids. I forgot which ones chocolate has in it. I think tyrosin or so... These help your brain to create serotonin and this makes you feel happy and your brain works better. 2 Copper (I have a low copper level and chocolate contains lots of copper). 2 some other things you neverous system needs...

May you be well, may you be happy, may you be healthy, may you be loved.

Hi, I find that really interesting to hear because usually you do not become allergic to fat! Usually it's some kind of protein you are allergic to. But I'm not a doctor...

I'm dieting hard at the moment to make weight, so hoping it's that that's put my Inner Balance scores in the pan. My HRV via the bulletproof app is pretty good though. Getting into the 80s and considering I'm in training for a fight, that's pretty good.
