Can't say I agree with those who like Machida, they call him "elusive". I call that spends every fight backpedaling or running away. I cherry pick the events I am interested in as there is just too much UFC going on let alone Glory and Belator. I loved UFC 189, best card I have seen in a long time. I'd have to say that my fave is Benson Henderson, he always brings it and is never involved in a bad fight. I wish he would stick at welterweight, heck maybe with the new rules he will have to, no IV bags for re hydrating...
Not often you get a superstar (Aldo) as a betting underdog. Amazing matchup with authentic animosity. Hard to bet against Notorious, but I just might have to.
i don't follow MMA or anything, but i keep seeing Ido Portal posting about the UFC guys that are learning "movement" with him, are you folks who follow MMA hearing about this stuff too? is this "movement culture" starting to find its way into the mainstream UFC talk or is it mostly just Ido building more hype around himself?

I'd say it would be a mix of both. I had never heard of Ido until he did the interview circuit on some shows I enjoy like LondonReal. I'm not so sure he's been training Conor very long at all, but they seem to have filmed most of it for promotion. Seems like a mix of gymnastics with some capoeira and yoga influence...and low level crawling. Seems more trendy than anything, but dude has some major body control.
yeah ido is interesting... i heard about him when he was on the rewild yourself podcast early this year and have experimented with some of his ideas. he offers some pretty good advice in some aspects i think. he's definitely got me squatting more and hanging more, and i've incorporated some of his exercises for bridge mobility into my routine. i like the push for being a good mover in a broad and versatile sense, but i think he almost downplays specialization and traditionalism a little too much, maybe just because he wants to be that voice and that's his schtick. him getting popular kind of excites me because it seems like 90% of what he does is from his capoeira background, and so maybe more people will seek that out and i'll have more folks coming to my classes. but, on the other hand i think that getting to know the movements without the context you are missing a huge part of the picture, and it could just result in more surface-level movement fetishism. it's almost like "wow, did you see how gracefully that guy moved his chess piece?" without knowing any of the rules of chess. now, instead of becoming an adept at any particular tradition people are going to just emulate the surface presentation of something "because movement"? ....and as awesome of an acrobat/gymnast/mover as ido is, i have yet to see any footage of him actually playing capoeira and demonstrating that he has a solid foundation of game underneath his acrobatic prowess.
that said, if you are on facebook i'd recommend joining the "Movement Culture" facebook group if you like seeing random videos of people doing all sorts of physical feats you never thought possible, acrobatics, weightlifting, dancing, fighting, anything that is "movement".

You know you've made it when they make a porn parody about you...
It doesn't get easier... It's you who gets better.

Ain't that the truth. I'm actually looking forward to DJ vs John Dodson. Talk about high level skills.
Don't jinx it.

I think you missed it, that was UFC 193
Most shocking upset that shouldn't have been shocking? Yes, 193 takes the cake.
I'm just talking about the fact that there is a fight card on Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night. So many fights to digest.

yeah that's the stuff he's been posting. i wonder if it's just him and a couple other guys or if this sort of stuff is going to catch on.
