Hashimoto's And My Lame Gut (Help!) (Repost)

Sorry, thought this forum would be more appropriate.

Hey everyone,

My name is Dianne, I'm 21 years old, and I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's. I've had pretty poor gut function for about a year and a half now. Initially I was referred to a GI specialist who told me that I needed to take a daily laxative because I probably just had IBS. I chalked it up as a waste of time and continued to suffer from digestive issues in silence. Since my diagnosis, I've come to realize that the autoimmune condition I developed probably has a lot to do with my chronically poor gut function. I'm trying to do an elimination diet, but I'm a college student on a budget, so there are limits to what I can do with that. I'm wondering about my medication, in light of my particular circumstances. Should I be taking T4/T3 medication, since I'm probably NOT converting T4 properly? (My T3 was low in my last results. I also haven't felt any change in digestion since being put on generic levothyroxine). If so, how feasible is that for someone on a budget? What's the second best option?

Also, should I keep my medication the same before doing an elimination diet? Or should I figure out the medication before I start trying to repair my gut?

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate any help.

Labs/ Reference Ranges:

T4: 1.12 (0.82-1.77)

T3: 44 (71-180)

TSH: 3.250 (0.450-4.500)

  • Hi Dianne...I'm sorry you're having autoimmune disorder challenges. I've dealt with it for years but haven't has to deal with hashimoto's disease. It does appear though that like so many other autoimmune disorders it to is effected by gluten. I found this piece that may have some help and recommendations you can use...I wish you all the best in your quest to find relief. http://hypothyroidmom.com/10-reasons-why-hashimotos-patients-dont-get-better/
  • Hi Dianne,  I have a question, well actually both of you, have you noticed that you had more issues losing the weight and biohacking because of the autoimmune disorder? I also have hashmino and lame gut and yes going gluten-free has helped me but I still haven't seen major results and just wondering if maybe there is any suggestions?!

I am 31 and just like you Dianne I was recently diagnosed with Hashmino but have always had issues with my gut.
