I'm On The Butter Treadmill Now!
I’d like to describe what’s going on with me and butter and see if anyone out there has had a similar situation ...
When I first started out on BPC, I was a little timid about lumping in copious amounts of butter because it just felt weird. My whole life I’d been taught, incorrectly, that this type of saturated fat is bad you. So I tip toed in …
No worries though, I didn’t spontaneously combust or anything like that … It actually went great! But I quickly started to get hungry long before my lunch break (was that the MCT?). I reasoned that more butter would help this, and it did. I was now comfortably up to about a quarter inch slice off the end of the Kerry Gold bar each morning and it was tiding me over until about noon. Not too shabby!
(Side note: I don’t put all of this directly into my coffee. In my opinion, that much butter would mess up the awesome taste and balance of my BPC, so I put about 2/3 of that goodness directly into my mouth and then sometimes do a Real Salt chaser. One dash right into my pie hole! You get to loving this actually! But people do freak when they witness it.)
Here’s where the fun starts though. Eventually I start to get hungrier earlier in the morning. So, the butter isn’t holding me over as long as it was when I first upped my dose. Tolerance?
I now use a half inch wedge each morning. That was working well and getting me to about 1:00pm without too much hunger, but now even that amount is starting to leave me wishing for some sockeye salmon much earlier than I’d like.
What I’m wondering is if our bodies just adjust to whatever we give it and recalibrate itself, making that the new normal. At this rate, I’ll be up to a stick and a half of grass fed cow butter per day and my body will still be demanding more. What would happen if I ever decided to give it a rest? Would my body eat itself whilst on the prowl for still more saturated fat?
